World Champion Michael Schumacher is understood to have delayed due discussions over the renewal of his contract with Ferrari and his actions have prompted rumours that he will retire at the end of 2004.
Schumacher, who is in sixth place in the drivers' standings with only eight points and who has made unusual mistakes in the opening two rounds of the season, has been offered a new deal by Ferrari but he is yet to sit down and talk it over.
The five-time World Champion's manager Willi Weber told British newspaper The Sun: "Michael has not asked me to talk to Ferrari even though we are running late."
Schumacher has been criticised in the German press after he crashed into Jarno Trulli's Renault on the opening lap of last Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix and is thought to have been hurt by claims that he has "let down" Ferrari.
The German has always said he will retire when he no longer enjoys the racing, but Weber admitted: "It's possible that he will hang up his helmet if he's not enjoying racing and people are doing everything to make him dislike his job."
Schumacher's contract comes to an end at the end of 2004 at the same time as teammate Rubens Barrichello, team chief Jean Todt and the technical team of Rory Byrne, Ross Brawn and Paolo Martinelli.
