Schumacher to Race Eurofighter Jet

Thursday November 6th, 2003

Schumacher to Race Eurofighter JetWorld Champion Michael Schumacher will face a new challenge next month when he races his Ferrari Formula One car against a Eurofighter jet plane.

Six-time champion Schumacher will drive his F2003-GA to compete against the plane at the Grosseto air base in Tuscany in December.

"We expect to have three races, over 500, 1,000 and 1,500 metres," Lieutenant Alessio Della Volpe told AFP. "There will also be an exhibition of vintage cars and planes before the race, then a public demonstration of the new plane."

The Eurofighter, developed by Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, will be piloted by Maurizio Cheli, an astronaut and test pilot. The event is scheduled for December 11.
