Schumacher Forced to Miss United Training

Monday November 17th, 2003

Schumacher Forced to Miss United TrainingFootball-crazy Michael Schumacher has pulled out of a training session with Manchester United scheduled for Wednesday after picking up a knee injury playing for his local club.

Six-time Formula One World Champion Schumacher had been due to train with United before heading to Old Trafford to take part in a penalty competition. But the German has been advised to pull out of the event by doctors after colliding with the opposing goalkeeper while playing for his home team in Switzerland, FC Echichens.

"I am very disappointed because I was really looking forward to training with the United players," Schumacher told the Press Association. "But if I trained with them I would not be able to give it 100 per cent so I have had to postpone it."

Schumacher, who will return to the track in January, has been told to put his feet up for two weeks before beginning preparations for an assault on his seventh Formula One crown.
