Nigel Mansell will this week attempt to secure a place on golf's European Seniors Tour when he takes part in the qualifying school for the 2004 season in Portugal.

Former Formula One World Champion Mansell, a keen golfer, is one of 130 players attempting to secure 16 berths on next year's tour.

Mansell is already linked to the European Seniors Tour having staged his inaugural Nigel Mansell Classic in August this year, a tournament he finished 60th in.

Victor Garcia, the father of European Ryder Cup player Sergio and Dr Arthur Spring, brother of Dick Spring, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, will also attempt to qualify.
