Lauda Launches Smart Business Scheme

Saturday October 25th, 2003

Lauda Launches Smart Business SchemeFormer World Champion Niki Lauda launched a new business this month, LaudaMobile, offering Smart Coupe for rent at 1 euro ($1.20 USD) a day.

The Austrian, who headed Jaguar Racing until last year and ran his own airline company Lauda Air until 3 years ago, launched the new scheme in Vienna, Austria. The 1 euro offer includes the proviso that the driver runs more than 30 kilometres in 24 hours, seeing as the small cars are covered in advertising which subsidises the rental costs.

"Many companies use Smarts for advertising," 54-year-old Lauda told The Daily Telegraph, "but they're also really trendy and practical for people visiting cities on business or short breaks. I started the company from my home, worked out it was feasible and took it from there."

Currently LaudaMobile is offered in Vienna only, however Lauda plans to expand this offer to other major European cities if the initial business succeeds.
