Schumacher Sworn in as San Marino Ambassador

Tuesday September 2nd, 2003

Schumacher Sworn in as San Marino AmbassadorWorld Champion Michael Schumacher is now officially an ambassador for the Republic of San Marino, after impressing the nation with his long-standing charity work.

Schumacher, who has won the San Marino Grand Prix four times, was sworn in on Monday at a ceremony at the Palazzo Pubblico in San Marino before heading off to test his Ferrari at Monza on Tuesday.

"I feel honoured and proud," said Schumacher. "This appointment is a further impetus for the work I already do. Unfortunately, it is a fact that many people need our help and our attention, compassion and support is needed."

The five-time World Champion Ferrari driver is a UNESCO ambassador and has recently become a representative for the ICM institute for brain and spinal column defects.
