French GP Could Move to Le Mans in 2004

Sunday September 28th, 2003

French GP Could Move to Le Mans in 2004The French Formula One Grand Prix could move to the Bugatti-Le Mans circuit as early as next season, according to reports.

The French race, which has been held at the Magny-Cours circuit in Nevers since the 1991 season, is still provisional on the 2004 calendar, subject to the negotiation of a new contract with Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Management.

Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper said today that, due to financial problems that are slowing down the negotiations, Magny-Cours could be set to lose the race to the 4.2km Bugatti-Le Mans circuit.

The Le Mans track currently hosts the MotoGP race in France.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the French Grand Prix has its place on the calendar guaranteed thanks to Renault, who have asked for a race there in order to continue racing in Formula One.
