A1 GP Places World's Largest Race Car Order

Thursday December 16th, 2004

A1 GP Places World's Largest Race Car Order A1 Grand Prix has given Lola the green light to supply 50 cars for a new Dubai-based series in what it called the largest single racing car order in the history of motorsport.

British-based Lola had originally been asked to supply 30 cars but A1 said the order was increased due to demand by countries seeking to participate in a series it bills as "the World Cup of Motorsport".

Sheikh Maktoum Hasher Maktoum al Maktoum, the series founder, said 13 countries had signed up with another 19 still negotiating.

A1 plans to start in September next year to fill European winter months when there is no Formula One racing with a new nations-based one-make series.

The single-seater 3.4 litre cars will be provided by A1 and run on a franchise basis by national teams with drivers and sponsors from that country.
