Cosworth Racing has announced that it will remanufacture the most successful engine in the history of Formula One, the DFV.
The engine went on to claim 155 race wins in Formula One, before various derivatives were used in America, in IndyCars and ChampCar racing. Conceived by Cosworth founder Keith Duckworth in 1966, the DFV (Double Four Valve) was a quantum leap in terms of engine design when it was unveiled.
Cosworth said it has decided to remanufacture the DFV's core components to service an ongoing demand for the engine. Cylinder blocks, heads, sumps and front covers will all be available from late spring/early summer.
The remanufactured components are based on the F3000 specification of DFV from the late 1980s, with short stroke and tall sump designation. The engine is still used in classic race series, such as the Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship, which races old Formula One cars.
Cosworth currently supplies engines to the Jaguar, Jordan, and Minardi Formula One teams.
