Renault's managing director Flavio Briatore has responded to media speculation concerning Ralf Schumacher and the French Formula squad.
Germany's Bild newspaper today quoted Schumacher's manager Willi Weber as saying the German driver was close to a deal with Renault for the 2005 season. Schumacher has a contract with Williams until the end of this season, but talks to extend the deal have stalled lately.
Briatore admitted to talking to Weber over the weekend in Australia, but denied that any discussions had taken place concerning the German driver's future at Renault.
"I saw Willi Weber in Melbourne, and we certainly talked to each other - we are friends, so that is perfectly normal," Briatore said in a statement. "However, at no time did we discuss, or have we discussed, a possible future for Ralf Schumacher in a Renault car."
