New Zealander Scott Dixon's hopes of driving for Williams in Formula One next season ended on Wednesday when his Ganassi Indy Racing League (IRL) team announced he was staying with them.
Dixon, the 2003 champion in the US oval series, had two tests with Williams in April as the team seeks a replacement for departing Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya. However, Target Chip Ganassi Racing said in a statement released in Indianapolis that the 23-year-old would stay with them "for many years to come."
"I want to defend my championship and I want to win the Indianapolis 500," said Dixon. "We can now concentrate exclusively on doing that this year and next year and the year after that as well."
Toyota, who are also likely to have at least one vacancy for next year in Formula One, ruled out Dixon earlier this month.
