Williams Denies Plans to Test Villeneuve

Saturday May 29th, 2004

Williams Denies Plans to Test VilleneuveTeam principal Frank Williams insisted on Saturday that the Grove-based outfit have no plans to test former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve.

The 1997 title winner, who retired from the sport last year after a difficult season with BAR-Honda, has remained silent on the chances of a comeback but Williams admitted last weekend that they have had discussions.

There have been rumours that Villeneuve was to test with Williams next week, but the team boss denied any plans to do so.

"We have no date on that at all," said Williams. "We have had conversations with lots of people but have no dates to test anybody at this time."

When asked if the team had any intention to test Villeneuve, Williams said: "I won't answer that because I can't."

McLaren chief Ron Dennis said, however, that he expected the Canadian to test.

"I think he is due to test a Williams and it will be interesting to see how he goes," he said.
