The Minardi Formula One team could be boosted by funds from the Italian government.
The struggling Anglo-Italian squad could be set to receive cash from Italy's Ministry of Innovation and Technologies thanks to their contribution for motorsport in the Mediterranean country.
"Giancarlo Minardi has been a brave man who has believed in motorsport to the point of putting his personal assets at risk," Gazzetta dello Sport quoted Franco Lucchesi, president of the Italian Automobile Club, as saying. "The drivers who ended up in Formula One thanks to his team make us realize that we cannot ignore him.
"Minardi is involved at the highest level of research and experimentation, and for this reason we believe that it will be possible, thanks to the funds from the Ministry of Innovation and Technologies, to give him some gratification for what he's done."
Minardi have the smallest budget of the Formula One field, and they have scored just one point so far this year.
