There have been a lot of rumours that Eddie Irvine would be replaced at Ferrari because of his bad results but after last weekends second place he deserves some credit.

Jean Todt said: "It has never been the intention of Ferrari to destabilise Eddie. We must be pragmatic. I like Eddie. He is a clever guy with a strong personality who is good for the team. But you must not kid him that he did anything other than his job. I was criticised for keeping him this year, but last season we did not give him enough support. He deserves to be judged in the normal way, but the season has just started. He has seven or eight races to prove himself before we can talk about the future."

Technical director Ross Brawn also has faith Irvine: "Until Argentina we had not had an opportunity to see Eddie's full capabilities. We think he is a great Number 2 driver who could become a great Number 1."

Eddie Irvine has also expressed himself that he could have won the race but because of the bad results he had so far he was aiming for a good finish.

Fine for organisers Argentine Grand Prix

The organisers of the Argentine Grand Prix have received a fine of $10.000 because of showing the red flag after first corner accident. This red flag made Michael Schumacher believe that the race was stopped.

Head and Newey at Senna trial

Williams technical director Patrick Head and former designer Adrian Newey were present at the Senna trial for the first time. They were not there to give evidence but just to listen to other witnesses.

The witnesses they listened to were the Italian experts who drew up a report saying that a badly welded steering rod caused Senna to crash into the wall.
