Current World Championship points leader, Jacques Villeneuve has received a warning from the FIA in Paris today for criticising planned changes in the regulations for 1998.
After a meeting with the FIA Council lasting 10 minutes, Villeneuve appeared and stated "It's just a warning which means I might get a suspension next time, if there is a next time."
Villeneuve has been critical of the proposed changes since testing a Williams-Renault updated to the 1998 rules, and discovered his laps times were nearly 10 seconds slower than this years car.
During the weekend of the San Marino Grand Prix, Villeneuve had said "These new regulations are just a joke. To run on these tyres is just ridiculous. It takes all the precision out of the driving and the racing - as well as the fun - and it is just a ridiculous idea."
After leaving the meeting Villeneuve also noted that "It was a discussion to make things clear and everything went well, the problem is not what I've said but the way I said it. I should have used other words."
Villeneuve returns from Paris to Montreal this afternoon, to continue preparation for this weekends Canadian Grand Prix.
