Gianni Morbidelli was taken to hospital with a broken left arm after a high-speed crash during the tests at the Magny-Cours (France) track. It' said that he will need six weeks to recover. A replacement driver is not yet named. Nicola Larini, who drove for Sauber in the early stages of the season, is not a very likely candidate because of the argument that has risen between him and the Sauber team.

Michael Schumacher used two F310B cars to test various parts that might be used in the future.

Jacques Villeneuve was the fastest man on the track today followed by his team-mate Heinz-Harald Frentzen.

Jarno Trulli seems to be getting comfortable in the Prost-Mugen. He was faster than Emanuel Collard and almost 1.5 seconds faster than regular Prost driver Shinji Nakano. Trulli stated he has to get used to the power of the Mugen engine and some other parts of the car which are totally different from his Minardi-Hart.
