Norris McDonald's column in the Friday, June 20th edition of Toronto's Globe and Mail claims a possible world exclusive regarding news of a Grand Prix held in the United States.

The lead reads: "An announcement of epic proportions is likely going to be made in Los Angeles any day now, and it is going to throw the world of motorsport into a tizzy.

It will be that the U.S. Grand Prix will return to the international calendar, perhaps as early as next year, and that it will be run throughout the streets of downtown Los Angeles on Labor Day weekend."

McDonald goes on to say that Ford is thought to be one of the major forces behind the new race, with their major investment in Stewart Racing as well as spurious "insights" into the CART/IRL/NASCAR/F1 scene in the U.S..

At this time, Atlas F1 News has no other confirmation regarding the news other than that from the editors of Globe and Mail.

Blundell wins his first race

Former Formula One driver Mark Blundell has won the Budweiser G.I. Joe's 200, the first CART win of his career. He caught leader Gil de Ferran with 27 thousands of a second. Third man Raul Boesel was just 55 thousands behind Blundell.

Blundell missed his first victory two weeks ago when he ran out of fuel just a couple of hundred metres from the finish.

Blundell commented: "It has been an unbelievable couple of weeks. Detroit was a fantastic run for us but for the last 300 feet. Then it was one of the biggest lows of my life. But we knew from that race that we'd run a very tactical race and we can run up there. We're getting stronger and stronger."
