Max Mosley warns the Williams team not to go through with the appeal regarding Villeneuve's disqualification. If they do the penalty could be higher. He stated: "There is a risk that Villeneuve could lose not only two points from Suzuka but also be suspended for Jerez. It would be a nightmare for Bernie Ecclestone but the court is independent. If Williams would withdraw their appeal, I can imagine that they would stick to the two points deduction."

Appealing has proven to be a bad choice in the past, with higher fines and tougher penalties.

Niki Lauda has stated that the rules of ignoring the yellow flag must be changed so driver would be penalised more severely.

Berger to retire

An Austrian newspaper stated that Berger is set to announce his retirement on Friday. Berger has called a press meeting but his press agent said the report was pure speculation. The fact is though that Berger has stated he wanted to drive for a top team but no seats are available.

Minardi drivers

Shinji Nakano has declined the Jordan offer to become their test driver and it seems Minardi is interested in him in the hope to keep the Mild Seven sponsorship. Pedro de la Rosa, formula Nippon champion, is also a contestant for the seat because he can bring in a rumoured 12 million dollars. Esteban Tuero, is also a possibility, so the race is on.

Dome?

The name Dome seems to come up every now and then, especially at the beginning of a new season. The team still exists and is aiming for a 1999 entry, but financial problems keep coming up. Dome will only come into Formula One if they have a big sponsor. So we just have to wait and see.

Stewart to test Stewart

Jackie and Paul Stewart are going to test their own race cars on October 31 at Silverstone.
