Michael Schumacher was very optimistic about his title chances this year when he secured last Sunday's race. He stated that they had closed the gap to the McLarens.

Ross Brawn of Ferrari is not so sure. He stated: "I am sure that not finishing in Montreal is a big blow to them (McLaren). But I don't think for a second that it will knock them back. They are a tough team and you need only look back to last year, when they had a dreadful time, to see how well they have come back to put this sort of season together. I don't think this is going to affect them too much and I am not expecting an easier time for the rest of the season. But I still think the title battle is completely open. We need only a couple of good races to reverse the current situation completely. We are working in that direction."

A Montreal Newspaper reported that Michael Schumacher knew Heinz-Harald Frentzen was there when he exited the pits. He said: "We knew where Frentzen was and kept Michael informed over the radio."

It was also announced last weekend that there will be 18 Grands Prix next year. China, Malaysia, and South Africa will be added and one European removed. This announcement is unofficial.
