Jean Alesi was surprisingly faster than both McLarens on the Magny-Cours track today. He was positive about the long wheelbase car and the modifications that have been made to the rear suspension, but he did state however that he clocked his fastest time with a car running low fuel.

David Coulthard, he was third behind Hakkinen, stated that it was Hakkinen's own fault that the gearbox broke down during the last Grand Prix. McLaren and Ferrari were trying out different fuel loads and set-ups for the race. Ferrari was also testing a new front wing.

Giancarlo Fisichella sprained his ankle during a friendly soccer match on Tuesday. He had it looked at in the hospital, but it was not serious. It did feel a little sore however so he did not do many laps today.
