Jordan The Jordan team is looking to take third place in the championship but is also seriously looking at the future, which seems bright. Eddie Jordan stated: "I have a feeling that we will have a crack at the championship next year. Judging by what I know is coming out of Mugen Honda and the new structure inside Jordan, then third place in the championship should be our minimum target next year. I can't believe we won't have as good a chance as Williams, Benetton or McLaren for that matter, and who's to say we can't win."

Honda has been one of the main reasons for the rise of the team. Jordan is thus looking to extend their contract, which ends at the end of 1999. "A lot of it has been Honda," said Jordan, "which has reputedly found 50bhp this season, that's worth around 1.5s a lap on a circuit like Suzuka."

Jordan also feels that Hill could be their driver for a quite while: "The age is not important for me. The criteria is hunger. I look at him and think: 'He's as slim and as trim as ever.' Nigel Mansell went on in F1 into his 40s. He was bulky and had a difficulty at that time in his life with his weight. Damon does not have that. He is committed to his training programme, and he pushes very hard on it."
