The ambient temperature continued to soar on the second day of British American Racings South African test, once again conducted in front of a huge and enthusiastic local crowd. The programme was interrupted by a variety of small problems, which prevented Jacques Villeneuve from completing the full number of scheduled laps. In what might best be described as a character-building day, the team worked methodically through the technical issues, eventually running the car for a total of 25 laps. In that time, Villeneuve recorded a best time of 1 min 25.6 secs. A full race-distance simulation run is planned for tomorrow.
JACQUES VILLENEUVE "Weve experienced a number of small problems today and didnt really have the chance to do as much work on the car as we would have liked, so its been a bit disappointing. Tomorrow is my last day here at the test and we want to do a race simulation as well as work on different set-ups. Hopefully, everything will be sorted out by tomorrow and well have a productive day."
CRAIG POLLOCK, Managing Director, British American Racing "Today has clearly demonstrated what a really strong team British American Racing has become. Even though weve had problems during the day, it was important for me to see that nobody was giving in. It may have been frustrating, but I take this kind of day as a positive, team-building experience."
JOCK CLEAR, Senior Race Engineer, British American Racing "We had a labour-intensive day with a lot of small difficulties that interfered with our planned programme. The days activities were brought to an end by a transmission problem, which we will investigate and sort out tonight. This should put us back on track for tomorrow."
