Jordan

Heinz-Harald Frentzen: "I am delighted and very happy with the job my team did today. It will take time to sink in, but I am going to celebrate tonight - I am not sure how yet. The strategy worked very well and the team was able to keep me informed about the fuel and the weather. My pit stop took a long time and I was getting nervous until I realised the strategy had changed so that we could have a long second stint. The car was in good shape in all stages of the race and things worked out perfectly. This victory was nicer than my one in Imola, perhaps because no one expected it. It was really a tough race and we won it. After losing those six points in Canada, we have now struck back."

Eddie Jordan: "Heinz-Harald has produced one of the best turnarounds in Formula One, not only in the way he has driven for us since the beginning of the season, but most particularly because he had to come back from a serious accident in Montreal two weeks ago which put him in hospital. The strategy was perfect and, with Heinz?s good driving, won us the race. Heinz drove within himself, didn?t waste fuel or time on battling and made the most of the opportunity. He drove immaculately."

McLaren

Mika Hakkinen: "It was great fun, so much happened and I really enjoyed myself. I felt very comfortable with the car and that meant I was able to push right on the limit for 80% of the race. As the rain started things got tricky and I made a mistake and spun trying to take the lead from Barrichello. It took me a while to recover but the challenge of driving back to the lead was satisfying. After my last pitstop the team told me to hold position and not risk loosing six points by attempting to pass what would have been an understandably very determined Frentzen."

Ron Dennis: "The pleasure that all the team gained from seeing Mika recover from his spin and the discipline with which he accepted second place doesn't match the disappointment that we feel for David. His opening laps were some of his best ever and these moments are sometimes forgotten but not by us. The outcome of the weekend sees Mika move further ahead in the Drivers' World Championship and the team closing on their main competition in the Constructors' Championship."

Stewart

Rubens Barrichello: "I enjoyed the race tremendously. To be leading again like I did in Brazil was a great feeling. At one point things were working in my favour with David (Coulthard) stopping early on and other people struggling in the conditions. I suddenly thought, 'this is going to be my day'. I knew I had to make a second stop towards the end, so I was concentrating on conserving fuel but there was so much going on that I had to tell myself to keep pushing as well. It was a bit of a balancing act. I had some really good, clean battles out there with Mika and Michael. In a strange way, I have a tinge of disappointment because with a little luck with the fuel I could have been on the top step today."

Johnny Herbert: "I was halfway through the first lap when I lost second gear. After a few more laps I lost the other gears and the only option left was to cruise back to the pits and watch the rest of the race from there."

Paul Stewart, Deputy Chairman: "It was an excellent drive from Rubens and a great performance from the whole Stewart-Ford team. For us once again to have led a race is an important step and the strategy we chose and our response to the changing conditions showed excellent team work. We knew we had to do a second pit stop for fuel towards the end of the race and Rubens did brilliantly to hold off Michael Schumacher claiming third when he re-joined the race."

Martin Whitaker, Director, Ford Racing, Europe: "Everybody's hard work throughout the weekend paid off today when Rubens drove a fantastic race in very difficult conditions. He led the race for more laps than anybody else - illustrating that we were quick in both wet and dry conditions. We changed the fuel mixture during the race to preserve fuel to allow us continue to run as the conditions dried but when it began to rain again with eight laps left we brought Rubens in for his second pit stop."

Williams

Ralf Schumacher: "I managed to get a good start and afterwards I could quite easily overtake several cars, including the Prost of Panis, although I was struggling a bit. The safety car came out at the right moment because there was a lot of water on the track. The FIA made for sure the correct choice, as its decision came absolutely at the right time. When the pace car went back in, I felt quite comfortable with my car and I could also overtake my brother Michael: I have always a lot of pleasure whenever I'm fighting him. I am happy that, thanks to this fourth position, the team has another three points. Hopefully in Silverstone we will have a better qualifying position that will make it easier to achieve a good result."

Alex Zanardi: "It was a tough race today, due to the bad track conditions. On the 27th lap, when I was trying to reach the pace car, I lost grip on a huge puddle. The car went slightly sideways and I think too much water went into the air box, because the engine stopped."

Patrick Head, Technical Director: "Ralf drove a very, very good race especially because he was very limited by his grid position. You must be pretty pleased to arrive fourth in a race like that, starting 16th! Anyway, I think together we made several mistakes in the way we have run the car this weekend and we have got to tighten up on that and make sure we improve for the rest of the season."

Ferrari

Michael Schumacher: "This was a pretty chaotic race for me. My radio stopped working early on, so I tried to communicate with the pits with hand signals. My first problem was that I was having trouble changing gear and the reason I slowed a lot at one point was that I only had first and second gear. So I came in and changed the steering wheel, but from this point on things did not really improve. The new set of tyres did not work. I am not sure why. At the end of the race I had a fun fight with my brother Ralf, like in our old karting days. Apart from my problems, we were clearly not quick enough in the dry. Thanks to a great drive from Heinz-Harald Frentzen, the gap in the championship has not increased too much, so congratulations and thank you to him. The Safety Car came out at just the right moment and stayed out for the right amount of time."

Eddie Irvine: "Everything that could go wrong did go wrong today. I was in neutral at the start and lost time as I had to select first again. I knew it was going to rain, so I decided to take it carefully at first. Then I started picking off cars one by one. When the rain came, I radioed the team saying "pits, pits." I thought they might not be 100% ready, but we had agreed I should come in anyway. It was a bad stop and without it, I might have finished higher. Then, I spun behind the Safety Car. The car was okay and I found I could catch up with Michael quite easily. I could have done a one stop race as we started with a lot of fuel. Basically, we made too many mistakes, which is not normally the case. Our car was quicker than our main competitors and we missed an opportunity."

Jean Todt: "This was a disappointing race for us. Michael lost around 8 seconds with an electrical problem, fixed when we changed the steering wheel. For reasons we must look into, we also lost radio and telemetry contact with his car. After his final pit stop, his car was not handling properly and this meant the front tyres suffered excessive wear. Eddie had a good race and at the end we asked him not to pass Michael. It is the third time this season, that the result has not reflected the car's potential and we must try and get to the bottom of all the problems we encountered. Unfortunately, we lost a good opportunity today.

Prost

Olivier Panis: "Overall, it has been a positive weekend for the team. We have not had any mechanical problems at all and we handled the qualifying session well. I started on the second row and I spent most of the race in the leading bunch. We did all that we could, but unfortunately today we did not score any points and that is a pity. But it will happen soon. In any case, I am happy because my car behaved very well in the rain and I felt good."

Jarno Trulli: "I made a good start in gaining one place. I came up behind Olivier and we drove the first part of the race together, our lap times were very close to those of the leaders until it started to rain. From that moment on, the conditions became dangerous and I thought the decision to bring in the Safety Car and to keep it on the track as long as it stayed was the right one. My set-up was not ideal in the rain, I had quite some understeer. I attacked from the start to the finish, but it wasn't enough for me to get into the points."

Alain Prost: "The hardest thing for the team is to know that we did not score any points today. Above all, it is the first time this season that we have had both cars running at the finish and both on the same lap as the winner and in the top ten. The seventh and eighth places are, however, the most difficult to accept, but the important thing for us and for our supporters is to be fighting at the front of the field during almost the entire race. We were competitive all through the race, Olivier and Jarno have both driven beautiful races without any errors. The entry of the Safety Car cost us dearly as we were well placed from the start, but in the end we are satisfied overall to have a weekend that has been positive."

Corrado Provera, Peugeot co-ordinator: "For the first time this season, our two cars started in the top ten and finished the race. Unfortunately, they finished just outside the points in the worst positions. It is frustrating for the whole team at our national 'home' Grand Prix and for the drivers who are not rewarded. One small consolation: we have now gone several Grands Prix without any mechanical problems troubling us in a race."

BAR

Ricardo Zonta: "When the track started to dry I changed back to grooves, and I was really able to push then. I'm only sorry that it started to rain again because I was catching Panis very quickly and I think I could have finished much higher. When the rain came again I had to back off and just get to the end. I'm very happy that I made my first finish for the team."

Jacques Villeneuve: "Today's conditions were incredible. I don't think I have ever driven with so much rain. I was together with Alex Wurz and we were trying to join the rest of the field, not going really fast under the safety car. But normally when you're in the middle of the group, the cars push the water away but we had been on our own for a little while and when we reached the chicane, there was so much water there, that I just went acquaplaning and spun off. The same happened to Wurz right at the same time. It's a pity as I thought we were going quite well in spite of the rain just before the safety car came out."

Robert Synge, Team Manager: "Jock Clear's strategy was a great one and could have worked. He brought Jacques in for fuel just after the safety car went out and if Jacques hadn't spun off before he caught the safety car, he could have finished the race without a further stop, which could have been enough to get us on the podium. Ricardo as well could have finished higher after his late change back to grooves on lap 61, if the rain had held off until the finish."

Craig Pollock, Managing Director: "It was an interesting race where we took many risks. Ricardo made a call to go for grooved tyres towards the end and it was the right decision as he was catching Panis five seconds a lap before the rain came back again. Jacques' strategy appeared to be perfect but unfortunately he made a mistake and went off. It's disappointing for the team but it seems that our reliability now enables us to finish the race."

Minardi

Luca Badoer: "I feel pretty satisfied to leave behind me our direct rivals. My car behaved very well on the dried asphalt. But on the wet track, with that pouring water, it was a little bit harder on the intermediate; what is important, anyway, is the today's positive race outcome. I wish to thank all the lads for the good job done."

Marc Gene: "I feel so disappointed because this could have been a rare opportunity to seize. I felt very comfortable on the wet track, I even realized I like very much driving in the rain; moreover, my car was certainly more competitive in such weather conditions. When it started raining, while driving on slick tyres, I really appreciated. The race strategy for the pit stop was perfect: in fact we soon changed tyres at the right moment. As the safety car arrived on the track, I had, however, the bad feeling I could be victim of the treacherous aquaplaning conditions. Unfortunately this was the case."

Cesare Fiorio: "Today's race brought us a big satisfaction because the whole Team did a great job, reliability of the cars was excellent and we are now starting to improve our positions; this time we left both Arrows behind us."

Giancarlo Minardi: "A hard race where Luca always pushed his car to the limit, without making errors as very few drivers did, thus optimizing the work done by the whole staff on the track. The today's result is a little step forward to reach steady prestigious positions."

Sauber

Jean Alesi: "Today I had no luck. From my fantastic place on the starting grid I had the opportunity to finish well in the points today. I was able to stay strongly in touch with Rubens Barichello, but just before it started to rain I had to let David Coulthard by. The car and engine were going really well and after my pit stop, in which we switched to wet tyres, I was able to rejoin still in third place. Unfortunately, the track was really wet and therewas a lot of standing water. When I braked for a corner the car spun into the gravel. It was my mistake!"

Pedro Diniz: "I lost a place at the start, but my car was going well and the set-up was good. I was able to pass Johnny Herbert, and was settling down when the car lost all its drive on the seventh lap and I had to pull off the track."

Peter Sauber: "It's ironic that our fantastic starting position for Jean should be washed away in similar conditions in the race. What a pity!"
