Speculation that Nick Heidfeld will replace Damon Hill for the rest of the season stepped up a notch when it was revealed that the 22 year old would be testing for the team at Monza next week.
Heidfeld currently leads the F3000 championship, driving for what is effectively the McLaren Junior team. His career has been supported by Mercedes, who would no doubt bankroll the Jordan drive. This would give McLaren a good opportunity to see how the German copes with a move to F1 and he may well even end up in a McLaren for the start of the 2000 season, if the team releases on of its current drivers.
