Michael Schumacher was injured today, at the start of the British Grand Prix, and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. His spokesperson said that he has injured his lower right leg in a high speed accident, and that he has a broken tibia.
Schumacher took the Stowe corner at Silverstone when he encountered a mechanical problem - it may be either the throttle or the steering - and was forced to take the corner straight up, in a speed of approximately 300 kmph. He was only stopped by the tyre barriers, at the end of the gravel trap.
Schumacher tried to remove himself from the car but was unable to, his leg caught in the cockpit wreckage. Medical staff attended Schumacher at the scene of the crash, and he was then taken to the Silverstone medical centre. After an initial inspection, he was then removed by a helicopter to a hospital nearby.
No news have come out yet how many races Schumacher is due to miss, but speculations has it that he will be some 6 weeks out of action, and may be back racing by the Italian Grand Prix.
