Jean Alesi announced today that he will not replace Michael Schumacher at Ferrari while the German recovers from his injuries.
"I would love to race for Ferrari, but only if Michael was there too," said Alesi. "I'm not interested in replacing him for these two months, it really doesn't interest me at all. Michael is a friend and I am fond of Ferrari, but I can't go there under these conditions."
Ferrari were willing to announce late last night Alesi's recruitment but the Frenchman asked for an overnight think and today told Ferrari bosses he declines their offer. An insider within Ferrari said that the talk was good and the team "carry no grouches" over this. Following that, the Ferrari team has delayed the announcement and said a decision will be made later on this week.
