According to BamS, Ralf Schumacher was caught in a over-flooded tunnel after a heavy rain storm. Driving away after their testing session at Monza, the Williams driver and two other people inside the car managed to exit the vehicle in what was turning out to be a dangerous situation.
"While I was applying the gas pedal going through the tunnel, I lost control. It swam like a boat. Within a short time I noticed that water was already filling up the floor board. More and more water was entering the car. The doors did not open," said driver Franz Tost. Passenger Ralf Schumacher said, "We had to get out through the the windows." The three people rolled down the windows and climbed out.
"There is a sidewalk inside the tunnel. We used it to get out. There we met the members from other teams who were waiting for us. Other teams were behind us, also waiting to use the tunnel," said Tost.
At Monza, the tunnel is used to get to and from the track. "We saw the water, but we didn't know how high it had reached. We thought we could speed through it," said Schumacher.
