Villeneuve Threatens to Leave BAR if Pollock Leaves

Wednesday November 3rd, 1999

Jacques Villeneuve said he will leave BAR if the team boss, Craig Pollock, is ousted by the other shareholders.

Globe and Mail reported this week that the team owners, unhappy with BAR's point-less debut season, are looking for a thorough overhaul in the team towards next season, and Pollock could be the chief victim. "We're clearly very unhappy with the results this year," Adrian Reynard told the newspaper. "The directors want to see changes in the team from the top to the bottom so that we can improve our performances and prove to Honda that we're a credible team."

However, the team's star driver, 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, said today that if Pollock is forced to leave, he too will follow. "A big reason for me joining the team was because Craig was instigating it. So he's a key element for me remaining in the team," Villeneuve said.

However, Pollock himself said his seat is under no threat, "But I strongly believe that there is never smoke without fire. Somebody in our organisation is fuelling the fire because it serves him to do that. It's not my problem, it's his."
