Michael Schumacher was declared fit to race by the FIA's chief medical officer, Professor Sid Watkins. Schumacher was asked by Watkins to perform a series of activities, including hopping on his injured leg, to see if he could stand the pain. "He is now fit and can drive this weekend," said Watkins later. "He is a very successful and tough guy. It's not surprising that he is able to return to action."
