Tuesday October 19th, 1999 Ferrari's case is receiving a growing support from key figures in rival teams, primarily technicians and designers. Patrick Head, the technical director of Williams and usually one to criticise Ferrari, stepped up to Ferrari's defence, saying: "You have to feel sympathy with them. If you ran a micrometer along every car in the pitlane, you would find some part which was out. You need rules but everything is not black and white. To throw Ferrari out of the race does not fit the crime because there is no suggestion that they were gaining an advantage." Head was also joined by Mike Gascoyne, technical director at Jordan, and Gary Anderson, of Stewart Ford. Anderson, like Tim Edwards from Jordan, also added that, "Those parts would not be a factor in Ferrari's performance in this race."
