Ferrari Won't Use Controversial Barge-Boards in Japan

Thursday October 28th, 1999

Ferrari will not be using the barge-boards that saw them disqualified and then reinstated in the Malaysian Grand Prix results. Although the team managed to prove in the Court of Appeal last weekend that the barge-board were in fact right within the limits of the regulations, Ferrari team chief, Jean Todt, said today they prefer to be on the safer side for the decisive race in Japan.

"We could have remained as we were," Todt said. "We have clearly said it was a manufacturing problem which took us to the maximum tolerance of five millimetres, but we thought it was easier to put it at zero tolerance. We do not do the technical check but will have to make sure this time. We will be very careful about the legality aspect or our cars so we will make a double or triple check before the race."
