Amidst the turmoil of Michael Schumacher's first public testing, almost all Formula One teams showed up for the first day of testing at the Monza circuit, in preparation for the uncoming Italian Grand Prix. The sunny and humid session saw Championship leader Mika Hakkinen head the time sheet, with a lap of 1:25.15s. He was closely followed by a surprisingly fast Ralf Schumacher at second and teammate David Coulthard at third.
Testing at Monza will resume tomorrow.
