Thursday February 3rd, 2000 Shortly after McLaren unveiled its 2000 contender, the MP4-15, Mika Hakkinen was forced to retire from its first test run at Jerez due to software problems in the car. However, Hakkinen managed to put in 34 laps altogether today, with a best time of 1:25.32. His teammate, David Coulthard, managed to set a time almost one second faster - 1:24.42 - running the 1999 McLaren, fitted with a 2000 Mercedes-Ilmor engine. Coulthard ran 93 laps trouble-free.
