Friday January 14th, 2000 British American Racing today clarified its senior management structure and announced two new appointments. Don Brown becomes non-executive Chairman of the Holdings Company, while Rick Gorne assumes the role of Motorsport Development Director. The team also confirmed that Craig Pollock continues as Managing Director, while co-director, Adrian Reynard, as envisaged in the original partnership, continues to have specific responsibility for overall technical development. "I will continue to be 'technical guru' to the team," says Reynard. "I think that probably best describes what I do." Don Brown, who is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Imperial Tobacco in Canada, explains, "My role is purely non-executive on the Holdings Company board. The board felt it was important to have a Chairman who had no executive involvement in the operation of the team and could therefore act in the best interests of the company as a whole. Taking on this role allows Craig, Adrian and the management team to focus completely on the challenging mandate of directing a successful Formula One team." Pollock, who is responsible for the overall running of British American Racing, comments, "I am more than happy to relinquish the title of Chairman of the Holdings Company as there was inevitably some conflict of interest between my two roles. It is comforting to know that the board has continuing faith in the overall direction of the team." Gorne will now be responsible for investigating options for developing British American Racing over the longer term. He will continue to play an active role on both the Holdings Company and Operating Company boards. "My role is a continually evolving one that is linked directly to the way British American Racing has grown and developed," explains Gorne. "Having spent the first year helping build the team from scratch, I then took on the role of Race Operations Director, which allowed me to assist in developing and honing the race and test teams. With that now in place, we need to look further ahead and start to plan for our long-term future." Commenting on Gorne's appointment, Adrian Reynard observes, "I've worked with Rick for nearly 20 years. He always puts 100 per cent into whatever challenge comes his way and I'm sure he will be immensely successful in this new role." Craig Pollock, Adrian Reynard and Rick Gorne were the founding partners of British American Racing.
