World Council Decide on Some Changes

Saturday January 15th, 2000

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) decided on Saturday that all engines in the Formula One world championship would remain at 10 cyclinders until 2008; that winter testing will be banned from here on in the month of December; and that speed limit in the pitlane will be slower than before.

The decision was made at a World Motor Sport Council in Monte Carlo which dealt mainly with minor technical changes.

The engine rule respects the current agreement between FIA and constructors, which expires on December 31, 2007.

For safety reasons, the FIA also imposed speed limits in the pit lanes of 60 km\h in practice and 80 km\h during the races. Up to now, the maximum speed in pit lanes on race day was 120 kph. The speed will be limited to 60 kph throughout the three days of racing in Monaco.

The FIA also ruled out any private testing on world championship circuits between the last Grand Prix of the season and December 31.
