Thursday June 29th, 2000 Honda confirmed on Thursday that it would be supplying engines to British Formula One team Jordan next season. Silverstone-based Jordan will use the same V10 engines that are already supplied to rival outfit British American Racing (BAR), ending its association with Mugen which has provided engines since 1998. Team boss Eddie Jordan, who stated in Montreal earlier this month that his team would need a better engine to compete with the top teams next season, said: "This is a massive breakthrough for the team and gives renewed credibility to our ambitions to win the world championship. "I believe that Jordan-Honda now represents the most exciting technical package for the years ahead." Jordan finished third in the constructors' championship last year but has struggled to maintain that form this season, scoring just 10 points in eight races. Jordan added: "It is pretty clear from this season's results that you need a top-level engine to compete at the very top of Formula One." Honda also confirmed it would continue its efforts to jointly develop chassis technology with BAR, despite its involvement with Jordan. Takeo Fukui, in charge of Honda's motorsport activities, said: "Along with our joint development of chassis technology with BAR, supplying works engines to Jordan represents a new challenge in Honda's third period of participation in Formula One."
