Barrichello Forced to Take Spare Car

Sunday April 1st, 2001

Ferrari driver Rubens Barrichello was forced to complete a late dash back to the pit-lane after his car broke down in the run to the grid prior to the Brazilian Grand Prix.

In front of his home crowd, Barrichello coasted to a halt just 30 minutes before the start of the race and from the far side of the Interlagos circuit he was forced to park up and run.

Barrichello got back to the Ferrari pit garage and was fitted into the team's spare car after a five minute run. He then drove out of the pit-lane just as it closed, 15 minutes before the start of the race.

Once on the grid the Ferrari mechanics worked furiously to change the settings on the car which had been prepared for his team-mate Michael Schumacher.
