Bernoldi Escapes Penalty after Pitlane Incident

Sunday July 15th, 2001

Arrows driver Enrique Bernoldi will not receive an official reprimand as race stewards deemed he did not make a dangerous exit from his pit box during the British Grand Prix.

Race director Charlie Whiting issued a report suggesting that Bernoldi should not have left his pit box after his second stop on lap 44 because of oncoming traffic behind him. He pulled out alongside Benetton driver Giancarlo Fisichella but was eventually forced to concede position as they battled for 13th place.

FIA race stewards, however, decided that no punishment was necessary for Brazilian Bernoldi after a meeting with team officials and he keeps his 14th place finish.
