Brazilian Felipe Massa kicked off on Tuesday a three day testing session for the Sauber team at the Mugello circuit, where the swiss team will be joined on Wednesday by BAR and Jordan.
Only two days after the United States Grand Prix, the 20-year old European F3000 champion, who impressed Sauber in his first test with them in mid-September also at Mugello, completed a total of 51 laps, setting a best time of 1:26.110. Massa enjoyed a trouble-free day except for a late spin which was apparently caused by a mechanical failure.
Massa is thought to be one of the favourites for the second seat at Sauber in order to replace Kimi Raikkonen alongside German Nick Heidfeld in 2002. The young driver will continue testing on Wednesday, when he will be joined by Jordan's Jean Alesi and BAR's test drivers Anthony Davidson and Darren Manning.
