Schumacher Breaks Fiorano Lap Record

Wednesday October 3rd, 2001

World Champion Michael Schumacher on Wednesday set a new record for the Fiorano circuit, where the Ferrari team are carrying out their preparations for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix.

The German driver, who finished in second place at Indianapolis last Sunday, joined the team's test driver Luca Badoer today at the Italian circuit. Both Schumacher and Badoer continued testing new components for the 2002 car, also carrying out some tyre testing ahead of the Suzuka race.

Schumacher completed 85 laps, setting a best time of 58.792, nearly a tenth of a second quicker than the previous track record. Badoer only did 15 laps, with a fastest time of 59.840.

Both drivers will continue testing at Fiorano tomorrow.
