Jacques Villeneuve is looking to improve his results. There is already a big gap between him and Mika Hakkinen for the championship but Villeneuve stated: "I will never give up the chase for the championship. I am looking forward to using the new Goodyear tyre in Argentina and I am sure we can make another step forward."

Ferrari will use revision D of the 047 engine in both cars next weekend. This new engine has improved valves and was only used by Schumacher in Brazil. Ford will limit the revs of the V10 used by Stewart substantially to improve reliability. It will have fewer horsepower than the Ford engines used by Tyrrell and Minardi.
