Several drivers have voiced they concern today over the possibility that tomorrow's French Grand Prix will take place in similar weather conditions to those of the qualifying session, earlier today. In fact, several key drivers went as far as to warn the race organisers not to start the race if the weather conditions were as horrid.

"There were rivers on the track and the cars were aquaplaning all over the place," said McLaren's David Coulthard. "If they race in that tomorrow then they will lose half the field. That is something we'll have a think about. You have to think we'll at least start the race with the safety car if it is like that out there. You cannot race in those conditions. They were dangerous and visibility was zero. If anyone took a decision to let us race in those conditions they would be risking the lives of all the drivers."

Coulthard's words were echoed by Ferrari's Michael Schumacher, who told German television RTL right after qualifying, "if it rains like that tomorrow, I will not race. I could get hurt and I have a family to think about."

Schumacher and Coulthard are both heading the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, along with Benetton driver, Alex Wurz, and therefore may represent these thoughts on behalf of all the the drivers tomorrow, if needed, with the stewards' meeting before the race.

But the two were not alone in sounding concern over the conditions. Jordan' Damon Hill also said today: "It was unbelieveable. Whatever I say you have to bear in mind that other people did a better job, but the car was aquaplaning on the straight and there were rivers on the track. If they race in conditions like that they will be asking for trouble. You're doing 200 mph (320 kph) down the straights while aquaplaning."

Hill's teammate, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, also joined the drivers, describing his drive today as "completely crazy." "Thank God nothing serious happened today," said the German.
